Tumbling Away: Understanding Science Using Visuo-Spatial Skills

Learning About Erosion

Your Assignment

You will be using a computer program to create a mountain and then apply different levels of wind and rain to it to see how it erodes. If you are using a speech reader or have trouble viewing the screen, ask your teacher about an alternative activity. If you aren't ready to do the assignments, you can go back to the reading.

Before you go to the assignment, write the following questions down on a piece of paper:

  1. Using the program, can you create a mountain and then begin to cause erosion? Write the steps to took to do this using the computer program. What conditions caused erosion?
  2. Using the program, can you cause a landslide to occur? Think about what you read about landslides and what causes them. If you were able to do this, write the steps to took to do this using the computer program. If you weren't, write the steps you took and why you think that didn't work.
  3. Think about what you were able to do using the program. How does this relate to erosion and landslides in real life?

This program is not functional in this prototype. It is displayed in the form of screenshots from what this combination of NetLogo and Pedagogica would look like.

Go to the assignment.
